Sylvester Williamson Sr.: Compassion needed to help solve homeless problems
Re “City must tackle vagrant problem” (Letters, June 11): The city has been doing all it can with the limited finances it has. The churches have been feeding the homeless, there have been public meetings on ways to address the homeless problem. I’ll bet a dime to a dollar that the writer of the letter didn’t attend any meetings or discussions on the matter, but seems to want to add his two-cents worth.
Instead of contributing your contempt by calling the individual a bum, you should try to be more proactive. Where is your sense of compassion or heart or simple human decency for someone less fortunate than yourself?
I pray that life never casts you into those dire circumstances, because I fear you pride would not let you survive it. I will pray for him as I will pray for you.
Sylvester Williamson Sr., Merced
