Melvin J. Ladousier: Instead of hiring staff, fix the roads
I must commend our Merced City Council for the maintenance work done on M and R streets. However, there is much more work needed on our city streets.
For example: 26th Street, between G and M streets, would be better off as a gravel road. The asphalt has been neglected for so long that patching and overlay is no longer an option. Driving even 10 mph is a bone-jarring experience detrimental to the wheel alignment of vehicles. This is not the time to be spending money to expand personnel rosters outside of emergency services. Instead, we need to be catching up on infrastructure maintenance.
