Mary Hofmann: We’ve got save water but must save trees, too

I’m being the Lorax here and speaking for the trees. In our vital quest to dramatically reduce water use, please remember the trees. Lawns are dispensable, but our majestic trees cannot be replaced. Deep watering tools are available at stores and online. Just sink a 36-inch tube into the dirt, attach a hose, and let it drip right to the roots, which will grow down to reach the water. Available at stores or online, for $20 you can save the trees. Let’s have a conversation in the newspaper on ways to save water and save trees at the same time.
