Anthony Gallegos: Why won’t city go after water wasters?

I have contacted the Merced water enforcement officer too many times to count regarding abusers of our city water. The biggest culprit is the medical center on on El Portal and G streets. They water every single day. They have wasted enough water to get Bear Creek flowing again! It would not be exaggerating to state there are over 500 sprinkler heads in that unit. With the restrictions they should water on Wednesdays and Saturdays; yet they water every day. How many of these commercial accounts there are in the city?

Homeowners are also cheating; you can tell by the greenness of their lawns. They set their timers late at night or early in the morning so no one can see.

I cannot stress enough that not only is this hurting our water supply but is morally wrong!

Anthony Gallegos, Merced
