Ann Walsh: Merced responds to taggers in a positive way

As a resident of North Merced, I have noticed an increase in graffiti in North Merced this month. For reference, in 2010 the city of San Jose almost completely eradicated graffiti when it responded to taggers’ efforts with the nearly immediate removal within 24 hours. The city reduced graffiti 97 percent.

I have witnessed our city’s efforts this week in the San Jose kind of way. Within 24 hours, several sites along the bike trails were restored to their original beauty. I want to thank the city of Merced for ramping up its efforts to eliminate graffiti. The city has responded in an exceptionally timely way. Well done, Merced; please keep it up! This city is no place for taggers.

Ann Walsh, Merced
