Ron Aragon: Desalination better than building bigger dam
Re “Lake Shasta: Higher dam feasible” (Page A4, Aug. 1): Raising Shasta Dam 18.5 feet at a cost of approximately $1.4 billion dollars to gain revenues of about $30 million dollars. Really? That math equation gave me brain lock! After I read that in the Sun Star, I had to take a shower just to wash off the stupid. How about spending that money more wisely on some desalination plants? The problem with dam dynamic is that if it doesn't rain, you have a taller dam but still no water. With desalination plants, we would have all of the water we could ever possibly need, at least until God gets too old to remember how stupid we are behaving here in California.
