Pat Dillon: Teachers earning their pensions

Re “Pension liabilities pinch educators” (Page A1, July 29): Interesting article on teacher pensions. You then highlight the high retirement paid to administrators, most of whom had not been in a classroom for most of their educational careers. I’m sure they exist, but as someone starting my 19th year as a teacher, I have yet to meet a retired teacher getting that kind of dollars.

As stated, teachers pay into CALSTRS – at a rate of 10.3 percent next year. However, as someone who came into teaching as a second career, I will not be able to collect any or the majority of the Social Security I paid into for 20-plus years. Our pensions have been earned and we are thankful for the stable system we have.
