Steve Bantly: Trump can speak, but should do so responsibly
Re “Trump has right to speak” (Letters, July 18): In response to the letter from Los Banos commenting on Donald Trump’s recent criticism of Mexico and it’s people during his presidential campaign, and general comments concerning liberals and conservatives. To begin, Donald Trump has every right to express his views, but he also has a responsibility to express these opinions in a non-inflammatory way. I don’t think all illegal immigrants are murderers and rapists; indeed, some are children trying to reunite with family members.
The letter writer states that Mexico is a violent country; it has its problems, but the whole country isn’t violent, or else there wouldn’t be so many tourists visiting every year. Need I remind the writer of the violence in America? Does the Newtown massacre ring a bell?
Regarding liberals and conservatives: the letter writer states liberals call people names they disagree with, but conservatives never do. That’s delusional. What have we been hearing about President Obama from the right these last six years – born in Kenya, a socialist, a Muslim, hates America, etc. All untrue. Yet when “liberals” make comments about these false accusations, they’re labeled as stupid and un-American.
