Fernando Echevarria: Angry political words are demonizing Latinos

The long-simmering battle over immigration continues to haunt the nation and the Central Valley. Political committees prey on fear and target immigrants as threats, using political rhetoric to encourage a sour taste for all Latinos.

The general frustration centers toward immigrants entering the U.S. illegally, creating a dire need for strengthening our borders. Further, applying political and judicial pressure on civic leaders of sanctuary cities continues to gather momentum.

Latinos who voice their concerns for fairness and equality in workplaces are faced with many negative challenges which they must face alone. Diversity is the key to fairness. Preparations need to be made so a greater number of Latinos can form political action committees and enter local elections.

Racial prejudice has long been a part of history, too often written in blood.

Fernando Echevarria, Atwater
