David Garcia: Water vigilantes are going too far

Some citizens have appointed themselves the unofficial water police. Whenever they see something that falls within their definition of water wasting, they act as judge, jury and executioner.

I know of people who have had their sprinkler valves turned off, the wiring to their sprinkler valves ripped out and one even got a call to their employer to say that the employee was wasting water. Come on people, get a life.

Most communities have a procedure to report water wasters and their own official water-police patrols.

These self-appointed water vigilantes should be aware that some of their actions constitute vandalism and might be exposing them to injury by the property owners. What would you do if you found someone vandalizing your property?
