Ruth Oosting: Bankruptcy looming for Atwater

I totally agree with the letter “Taking fast ride to bankruptcy?” (Letters, Sept. 12). I feel, as many others do that Atwater is heading straight to bankruptcy. It didn’t just start with the city’s foolish purchase of an unneeded “million-dollar” firetruck. Some residents may not be aware that there was a self-serving reason the city changed the ordinance to allow a three-story motel to be built, along with the appropriate fire truck to go with it. A few local investors wanted to see that their investment was protected, and they lobbied to make sure the three-story motel will be a reality.

On top of that wasted money, the city manager enriches his senior staff with salary raises. Tell us how many hard working employees have been laid off, their families now suffering, so a few “special employees” can be enriched. Maybe, it’s time for the city manager to change his expensive suit to a blue uniform and return to his old job as police chief.
