Larry McFarland: Gratitude for helping our veterans

The Castle Honor Flight which took place October 27-29 was a huge success! Together, we were able to make it possible for 66 World War II Veterans to visit Washington to see the memorial dedicated to them and their sacrifices for the freedoms we all now enjoy.

It would be impossible to personally thank everyone who helped to make this Honor Flight such a successful event. The veterans were overwhelmed when they stepped off the airplane to a crowd of over 1,000 men, women and children with flags, banners, signs, balloons, a band and loud cheers greeting them. It took many donations of volunteer time, talent, money, material, services and food to make this event happen. My thanks to the many local area media outlets, businesses, organizations, service clubs, schools, law enforcement, fire and emergency services as well as the Castle Airport and Castle Air Museum. And of course, thanks to everyone who took the time to come out to Castle Airport to participate in the programs to honor our veterans and heroes.

Larry McFarland, coordinator, Central Valley Honor Flight
