Melvin Ladousier: Extending Prop 30 will hurt the poor

Re “New bid to extend Prop. 30 tax hikes” (Page 3A, Sept. 22): All of the politicians will tell you that they are for improving the lot of the middle and lower classes, yet those classes are hurt the most by Proposition 30 taxation. Those with difficulty making ends meet are far more negatively affected by the loss of disposable income. The upper classes, to which all state level politicians belong, are hardly affected in meeting living expenses by such taxation.

I am no expert on taxation, however it is not rocket science to figure out who is hurt most by a tax. I say vote no on an extension. Force recipients of our tax monies to cut the fluff, find ways to operate more efficiently and fix problems with policy and procedural changes – not just throwing money at them.
