Jarred Simmons: Merced has become a ‘sanctuary’ for the homeless

After navigating a number of intersections in Merced over the weekend, with homeless seeking revenue for a number of reasons, as well as witnessing Courthouse Park now having become a homeless encampment, there is no doubt that Merced has embraced sanctuary city status for the homeless and its corresponding philosophy. The local police say quite openly that the homeless have rights, too. The city council fails to help those who need help by neglecting policy to place them with an agency and assisting the homeless in getting the help they need and getting them off the streets. Meanwhile the Merced community continues to present the appearance of a community in decline and uncaring to help those in need.
