Nancy Reding: Shelter took good care of Sneakers for 6 months

On Dec. 28 I took my friend Gerry to the Merced Animal Shelter to pick up his cat, Seven. Seven was in perfect condition. While Gerry took care of the paperwork, I looked at the other animals. All were healthy, friendly and would come to the windows and doors in hopes the person looking at them would take them home.

I once had a beautiful long-hair grey car that didn’t show up one morning in June for her breakfast. I hoped Sneakers was alright and would return to the back door soon.

Then I turned a corner and looked into the eyes of a beautiful grey long-hair cat – “Sneakers?” I asked. The cat looked up, tilted its head and “meowed.” I went to the cage and said “Sneakers” again and started rubbing her through the bars. The cat meowed many times. I had found Sneakers.

Some kind person had taken Sneakers to the animal shelter in June. Six months and 8 days later, a miracle occurred.

Sneakers had gained weight and looked wonderful. Thanks to the kind and wonderful people at the Merced Animal Shelter and the person who found Sneakers.

The shelter always needs donations of food, blankets, litter and boxes and toys for the animals. Help the animals and the shelter.
