Jarred Simmons: A sign of hope in the city of Atwater
Atwater and its politics always appear to be on the verge of a public train wreck, with perceptions of money mismanagement, committee members who appear to lack awareness, overpriced cops, the need for a public agenda and constant rumors of the city’s financial demise. With two competing signs proudly displayed within the Atwater city limits, there is a “third rail” element of excitement added to the mix.
On the south end of town, facing Highway 99, the large white sign reads: “Hope For Our City.” Down at city hall a sign reads: “In God We Trust.”
With the same self-appointed cast of characters representing the public and focused on the low-hanging fruit of city hall signage, which they appeared to like then didn’t like, this gives more “hope for our city” and for the silent majority of the citizens of Atwater.
