John Riis-Christensen: Truth is, few people favor more gun-control laws

Re “Other Views: Most applaud Obama on guns” (Page 5A, Jan. 7): If you’re going to write anti-gun articles you should put a reasonable amount of truth in them. Your “Other Views” reads like it was written by Micheal Bloomberg and his minions. The media you excerpted do not represent most of the people. In the latest Seattle Times poll, people were 2-to-1 against Obama’s gun controls. A poll by radio station WFSB in Connecticutt was 3-to-1 against more gun control. A CBS poll shows only 47 percent want stricter gun control.

Federal laws can be used to put felons, drug users or addicts, illegal aliens, persons subject to domestic restraining orders or with prior convictions for domestic assault in prison for up to 15 years.

This country has over 20,000 gun laws; if they aren’t enforced they’re worthless. Criminals, by definition, do not obey laws. Obama cannot change a law nor can he make laws or violate the Second Amendment. Nor can “Gruesome” Gavin Newsom do it for his own political aggrandizement. Firearms sales continue to go up in most places as violent crimes have gone down. The exceptions are those large cities run by Democrats – Washington DC, Baltimore, Chicago and New York.
