Melvin Ladousier: First enforce existing gun laws

Re: “Harris seeks funding for gun-law inquiries” (Page 3A, Jan. 26): Fund enforcement of existing gun laws before you add new ones. It serves no purpose to enact laws which only infringe upon the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens who purchased firearms legally when we are not fully funding enforcement of laws already on the books. We already have the most oppressive gun laws in the country, none of which were violated by the individual supplying guns for the San Bernadino attack in acquiring the guns.

He had a right to own them. He broke the law in transferring them to the murderers. The law requires all transfers to go through a federally licensed individual with background checks of the purchaser. Enforce the existing laws vigorously. Imprison that man for breaking that law and suborning terrorism. As soon as an individual is convicted of a felony, identified as participating in a known street gang, put under a restraining order or adjudicated mentally ill, police should remove all guns from that person’s possession and residence.

When there is no backlog in removal of unlawfully possessed firearms, then consider amending the laws if necessary. No gun law infringing the Second Amendment shall be tolerated.
