David Rodriguez: Racism rears its head in Calaveras County

Re “Latino Caucus blasts remarks as ‘racist’” (Page 3A, March 17): Calaveras County Planning Commissioner Kelly Wooster must think he can say anything he likes. During a meeting and discussion about eradicating invasive plants and animal species, he said they should include Mexicans. Wooster must think that since Donald Trump (the pied piper of politics) wants to build a wall to keep Mexican people out, that he, as a county planning commissioner, has a right to say similar things.

Even if he was being facetious, he should have known that statement would ruffle a lot of feathers. It saddens me that no one on the board rebuked him or ask him to apologize after he spoke. They should have asked him to resign on the spot.

Such statements are intolerable and should be impermissable from a public official. The time of political reckoning might be soon for Wooster. I hope he is required to eat crow.
