Roy Anderson: One staffer to every 10 students seems like a lot
Re “Funding process taps local input” (Page A1, Jan. 16): As part of this article, I noted an interesting statistic. There are approximately 10,000 students and 1,000 staff members. If read properly, this is just the Merced Union High School District, and points out that it takes one staff member for every 10 students? Maybe we should be looking at ways to combine efforts between our multiple departments to cut the staffing down a little bit. My confession is that I don’t have the answers, but 1 staff member to every 10 students seems high to me. Let’s look at all of our school districts and see where, or if, there is a problem. No wonder schools are always out of money.
