Eric Hamm: A pre-Derby party all for a great cause
Last weekend, my wife and I attended the CASA Cup to support CASA of Merced County. It featured eight video horse races and attendees used “play money” to bet on each race. Winners got raffle tickets for prizes. Many attendees were dressed in their Kentucky Derby style clothes – pastel suits and big hats. It was lots of fun!
This was the first time we've attended the CASA Cup, but it won’t be the last. I recommend you put it on your radar. It’s a fun event that supports a great organization.
CASA is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality intervention and advocacy services to abused and neglected children in Merced County. CASA provides training, supervision and ongoing support to advocates who work with children in the foster care system. Each advocate is matched one-on-one with a child and acts as his or her champion. The work CASA advocates are doing is changing lives here in Merced.
I’m surprised CASA doesn’t get more publicity. They are doing amazing things. For more information on what CASA does, or to get involved, visit mercedcasa.org.
