John Riis-Christensen: Liberal version of justice works great, for criminals
Here are some of the results of goody two-shoes involvement in the criminal justice system. In Los Angeles county the Proposition 47 rehabilitation program for drug offenders is working just great; of 2,200 drug offenders sentenced in the first eight months of 2015, only 73 showed up for court-ordered treatment. Some took a short sentence in jail rather than go into longer treatment programs. One person was arrested on May 7, spent two months in jail, was released on July 9 and on July 31 pleaded guilty for stealing a bicycle from a shopping mall. He was given nine months in jail but got out early on a work program.
He said he rejoiced when he heard about Prop 47 because as long as he did not steal anything over $900 he figured they’d just give him a ticket and let him go. He was sentenced to drug rehab five times in 2015 and did not show up for a single session. This is justice the liberal way.
