Pat Mize: Without gift from Pedrozo many groups have nowhere to meet
Re “New Supervisor rocks the vote” (Page A1, Jan. 15): After reading the Sun-Star’s article, I felt the time has come to tell the public what some of these funds are used for.
I work for Le Grand Community Services District, which is a water and wastewater service for the residents of the community. The District’s office is located in the center of town, and this building is used by many in this community. Our District Supervisor is John Pedrozo. This community has been granted use of discretionary funding. The district office is in this building, but the entire community benefits from its use. This building is used by many groups – the Garden Club, Fifty-Plus, the Municipal Advisory Committee, 4-H, Youth Football, Cal Fire, the elementary and high schools; area churches meet here several times a year. The community food bank meets here monthly. The flu shot clinic is here, as well as blood drives. Elections are held here.
If not for John Pedrozo’s discretionary funds, who would like to pick up the tab for twice-a-week cleaning and upkeep? I also dislike governmental waste of taxpayer’s money. But we need to realize how many lives are impacted by the gift of discretionary funds.
Pat Mize, District Manager, Le Grand Community Services District
