Kent Amberson: Atwater should try other solutions before raising garbage rates

In reference to the scheduled increase in garbage rates in Atwater, I am a retired person and the last time I checked my Social Security, my yearly increase was about $21 from 2014 to 2016 – or 2 percent. For the year 2015 and 2016, it was 0 percent.

The present increase in garbage rates amounts to 11 percent for me as well as others. Why not listen to former city councilman Jeff Rivero, who had a great idea about how to lower the fees on the amount of cans for people who need only half a can stuffed full every week.
