Kay Alcorn: Downtown group is getting things done in Merced
I am on the board of the Merced Downtown Neighborhood Association. I want to call attention to our volunteer organization. We’ve only been organized for one year and I already we see positive results for our city. Change takes time, skills, passion and willingness. We are in need of those who have leadership and trench-work passions. We also would like to do fundraising and are seeking venues that don’t charge but can promote their business.
We collaborate and act as a community hub to assist in getting projects accomplished. The cleanup of the rose garden in Applegate park is a result of our members and the city of Merced; the cleaner streets are a result of the diligent work and leadership of Merced Walks, the city and our members. One successful project, community gardens, is a direct result of our association with UC Merced leadership. Our members and collaborative organizations are passionate about beautifying Merced and bringing business, safety and community to our potentially lovely downtown.
We have more projects than can be listed – and if you have a passion of your own we can help you get started or find a project already established that you can join.
