Wayne Wallace: Instead of renaming a street, change name of Bear Creek

I see Merced is at it again. Changing street names without much thought.

M Street would require over 500 address changes, the condos, the residents at Park Merced, the two rest homes and apartments. I remember changes of J Street and the concerns at the time. We had a print shop and many of our customers had to make the change of address after years of advertising their locations. One suggestion might be any person wanting to honor a Veteran to give a memorial.

Bear Creek, no name change on the street, but the creek could be renamed Veterans Creek just within the city limits. That would give you many locations to have memorials and items such as the flag at Applegate Park. Families could honor their sons and daughters, service clubs and organizations would have all kinds of projects to work on.

A committee could be formed to consider rules and regulations for memorials and how to get permission to place a memorial along Veterans Creek. If you agree, tell your city councilman or county supervisor, they may have a view on this. Does the county have any suggestions for its part of the creek?
