Rich Miller: Veterans Boulevard an honorary name for M Street

Re “Instead of street, rename creek” (Letters, June 13): Although the letter writer has offered some interesting comments, the premise has been revised. A revised proposal presented to the city council on May 16 is to add the name Veterans Boulevard as an honorary title, retaining M Street as the official, legal street name.

This concept has been used successfully elsewhere. The signage would still have M Street as the street name with “Veterans Boulevard” as a subtitle. Under this plan, the goal of honoring our veterans in a prominent and permanent way would be achieved but no one’s address would change. This would eliminate any cost or inconvenience to the residents and businesses along M Street.
