Mike Salm: He kept us out of a war, regulated banks and stopped tax cheats
Thanks to the President Obama. Thanks for keeping us out of a war. Negotiations enabled Syria to eliminate their chemical weapons and Iran to suspend its nuclear development. Thanks for the Affordable Care Act that helped 20 million Americans get healthcare they didn’t have. Thanks for having the Treasury Department work to stop American corporations from relocating overseas to avoid paying taxes in the U.S. The Justice Department has fined several banks for the unethical behavior that led to the housing crisis. U.S. regulators proposed new rules to overhaul the way Wall Street executives are paid, citing excessive bonuses that led up to the 2008 financial crisis.
The attitude of the President is clear and Michelle Obama explained it to graduates by saying: “ Are you going to take a deep breath, straighten your shoulders, lift up your head and do what Barack Obama has always done? As he says, ‘When they go low, I go high.’”
