Florence Lambert: Fireworks can terrify animals, causing many to flee into danger

Fourth of July is right around the corner. Barbecues, picnics, families get together and fireworks! Fireworks terrorize dogs and cats to the point of extreme fear. Every year thousands of animals panic and escape the back yards of their homes – some never to be seen again. Every year animal rescue phones are ringing off the hook on July 5th! Every year many of these animals are killed in their panic frenzy to escape the sonic booms of fireworks. My own grandson, unfortunately, lived through this horrible experience with his precious dog last fourth of July.

Please, create a safe escape proof place for your pet in a room within your house. Have plenty of water and if possible, turn on a TV in an effort to mask the explosions of the fireworks.
