Beverly J. Evans: Taste of the south comes to Merced restaurant

Well folks, there’s some new food in town at the old Eagles Nest on Childs Avenue. It’s called Aunties featuring southern cooking. Oh my my my – the food was totally delectable. Now, if you’re from the south, you’ll know what I’m talking about. But if not, I totally guarantee you will love what you taste.

Some friends and I went there after church. On Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is a brunch buffet. I sampled just about everything on the lunch side, including turkey ( falling off the bone), dressing and gravy (nothing from a mix here), fried corn (just try it), greens, cranberry sauce, potato salad, sweet potatoes, watermelon, coffee (just right) and peach cobbler.

There was also salad bar, prime rib or ham, lemonade, sweet tea plus sweet potato pie for desert. On the breakfast side they would have made an omelet to your liking.

I will be back during the week to order from the menu – gotta try fried chicken and waffles. The menu is online at eaglenestbarandgrillfeataunties.com.

I always love supporting local establishments and these folks are local, friendly and accommodating.
