Irene Brown: Both candidates bad, but prefers the egotist to the liar

Re “Clinton’s awful judgment wasn’t criminal” (Page 6A, July 6): As a registered “Independent” voter 25-plus years, this year’s election is very disturbing considering the two choices we have.

I am also alarmed by the media drooling over one candidate (Hillary). According to your editorial, Trump called the FBI investigation on Hillary Clinton a “rigged system,” and if he “has any actual evidence to back that claim, he should produce it.” That statement is ridiculous.

FBI Director James Comey gave many examples of the “extremely careless” handling of her emails. Normal folk do not have the license to make damaging mistakes with impunity. Would Hillary now be able to pass a government security background check for any confidential or classified position – especially President of the United States? There are two sets of law that govern our country: one for the masses, the other for the political elite.

I am a first-generation American and I have been proud of my country. But this election has left me ashamed. Neither candidate deserves the presidency; but your bias (and that of the media in general) toward Hillary is disturbing to the point I would prefer the egotist to the pathological liar.

Irene Brown, Merced
