John Hofmann: Letters bashing Clinton need more factual support
Re “Who supports Clinton? Those who don’t love America” (Letters, Aug. 8): Surprise, the writer’s hate-filled, ill-informed undocumented tirade has yet no response. I’ve previously written (never published) that even-handed thought-provoking comments on issues, especially political, need documentation, care and time. Plausible explanation why more of the former appear vs. the latter!
In another aspect perceived as even-handedness, the Sun-Star errs again. The Aug. 10 edition carried a news story regarding Donald Trump’s thinly veiled invitation to violence against Hillary by possibly unhinged Second Amendment gun extremists. Oh, to be fair, no one could believe there are such people in this country. Heaven forbid! The San Francisco Chronicle carried the Trump story, provided by The Associated Press. It contained information only pertaining to Trump’s rally and comments.
The article in the Sun-Star, prepared by the McClatchy Washington Bureau, had three final paragraphs regarding an unrelated Clinton campaign tidbit that “set off an uproar on social media”. No reasons for any notoriety about this, no reasons or suggested ideas for any such uproar, no news basis at all – except a sad attempt to “balanced reporting” and dilute focus from another national GOP embarrassment.
