Ruth Oosting: Atwater needs some new blood, new vision, new ideas
I completely agree with the August 13 letter, “Atwater needs a fresh vision.” Maybe, if the city had done some basic research, we would not be in the financial hole we’re in. The city can start anew by stopping the practice of promoting everyone and everything that moves in city hall. Just because a person has been employed by a company for many years doesn’t always mean they are qualified for the promotion they want.
New people and new ideas are needed to put the city back on track. If city administrators had been more prudent, they would have avoided the purchase of a million-dollar fire truck and they wouldn’t have blindly increased the Cal-Fire contract by $450,000 a year. The “million dollar baby” truck was touted as being the magnet that would draw in multi-story business ventures to Atwater. As the years go by, there are no big hotels or thee-story buildings in sight.
The only response is “oh well.” But that doesn’t feed the bulldog and residents are saddled with $90,000 payments yearly for the next eight years. The residents of Atwater need to take back their city.
