Henry Dupertius: America deserves better only if we vote for better people

Re “Clinton’s tawdry dealings can’t be ignored” (Page 9A, Aug. 20): The editorial excerpted from the San Diego Union-Tribune and reprinted by Sun-Star was very informative. However I disagree with the last line: “America deserves much better options than these.”

America gets and deserves those America votes for. This is the basis for Democracy. If America deserves better, she (as a whole) must vote better. One of the real problems is that less than half the people vote, That means that just over one fourth of the people elect our leaders. This is pathetic. Are we a still democracy, or are we heading for dictatorship?

Henry Dupertius, Merced
