Melvin Ladousier: Why doesn’t Obama want Apple to pay its fair share
Re “EU tells Apple to pay $15B in taxes” (Page 7A, Aug. 31): Whose side is President Obama on? During a time when this country is forcing corporations to flee to foreign shores to avoid taxation, and the President is “striving to reform taxes” to reverse the exodus, he “blasted the (European Union) ruling” to make corporations pay their fare share of taxes in the EU and de-facto worldwide.
Obama and all governments should be praising and following suit with the EU. As you hear repeatedly in fictional TV detective stories “follow the money.”
It is the time for independent grand juries to check out the finances of every elected official and political appointee in the country, make their findings public so the public can force elected Attorneys General to prosecute the “pay-for-play” payers as well as payees. Just as in racketeering cases, the proceeds of illicit activities should be confiscated and perpetrators sentenced to federal prison time, no parole.
