John Riis-Christensen: Prop 57 would release heinous criminals

Re “Brown scolds Fresno sheriff in voice mail” (Front page, Aug. 26): More on Proposition 57. Gov. Jerry Brown left a scathing voice mail message to Sheriff Margaret Mims of Fresno County when she put out a flyer against Prop 57. Apparently the governor doesn’t know what is in his own proposition.

There is, at the present time, a sex offender by the name of Arthur Lindsey in prison. I will not go into the crimes he was convicted of in this letter. The court found him so dangerous he was sentenced to 100 years. Under Prop 57, Lindsey has served the required 8 years and is now eligible for immediate release. Is this what you want in your neighborhoods? Are you ready to put yourself and your children at the mercy of people like this? There is no provision in Prop 57 to stop people like this from being released.
