Sugar Ray Leonard coming to Livingston

The Carlos Vieira Foundation is hosting the third annual Gloves Not Drugs Boxing Show on March 28 at the Livingston High School Gym.

The special guest is boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard. The six-time champion will offer an opening announcement, watch the bouts and then provide fans with photo opportunities.

Doors open at 1 p.m. and the competition begins at 2.

The Gloves Not Drugs program was established to provide at-risk kids in Livingston, Delhi, Atwater and Planada with the sport of boxing and a safe place to go after school.

Amateur MMA event coming to Merced

Hoplite Fight Production is bringing a night of amateur MMA fights to Merced on March 28. The event will feature up to 15 fights at Yosemite Hall at the Merced County Fairgrounds.

The main event features Merced’s Sergio Guerrero vs. Joseph Souza. Local fighters Rodrigo Garcia and Matt Moran also are scheduled to be on the card.

Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. with the event scheduled to start at 5. Tickets can be purchased at Merced MMA at 745 West Main Street. Tickets are $40 (general), $55 (VIP) or $80 (ringside).

Merced High Hall of Fame Dinner

Merced High School is hosting its inaugural sports Hall of Fame Dinner on March 21 at Yosemite Hall at the Merced County Fairgrounds.

Twenty-two athletes and coaches and the 1990 state championship football team will be inducted. Former football coach Mark Speckman will be the keynote speaker.

The night begins with a no-host bar at 5:30 p.m. with the event starting at 6:30.
