Oregon’s Warren ties Pete Weber

Merced Sun-Star

Chris Warren from Grants Pass, Ore. is a little guy in stature. It didn’t stop him from a big win.

Warren is this year’s winner of the 12th Annual Vanessa Brown Homes PBA West Regional Open held at Yosemite Lanes last weekend. Warren took home a check for $2,000 to the Northwest. He defeated P.J. Haggerty of Roseville, 268-235.

The win gave him 47 titles to tie PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber’s record for the standard PBA regional titles. This guy has been setting the lanes on fire recently. He just placed in the Suncoast PBA Senior U.S. Open in Las Vegas, he took first place with doubles partner, Darren Tang of San Francisco in the PBA50PBA Sands Regency Hotel Northwest Doubles in the middle of June in Reno.

Hunter retires after 22 years

Some of our local bowlers might not know this, that Keith Hunter, our long time secretary/manager of the Merced Bowling Association and the Merced County USBC Association has retired. He turned his retirement papers affected as of July 30 he will no longer be our manager.

After having surgery on his shoulder at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, he suffered a stroke while in the hospital. He is doing well, and is going through rehab in Merced, Fresno, and Stanford. He submitted his retirement papers prior to his surgery. The way it looks, he should be ready to hit the lanes in about a year.

Taking Hunters spot as manager of the association is Kim Barcellos. She was voted in by the board after receiving her resume that she submitted. Barcellos officially takes the position on August 1. We wish her the best.
