Barcellos and McCulloch place in doubles

Merced Sun-Star

After holding scratch six-games of singles for years, the management of Yosemite Lanes decided to try something a little different. They hosted a scratch six-gamer doubles and by the results is was a success for the first time out.

This tournament brings the top scratch bowlers in the Valley and Bay Area to Modesto. A total of 26 teams came to try their luck with the Kegel Middle of the Road Pattern. The top three teams that qualified for roll-off, included Atwater’s Neill Barcellos and Sean McCulloch in the third position for the finals. They rolled Modesto’s Will Garber, a PBA regional player and Mark Del Cerro from the Bay Area.

The first match Garber and Del Cerro rolled a 490 to a 380 for Barcellos and McCulloch to give the Atwater team third place and a check for $400. It was the first time the duo rolled together at Yosemite. Barcellos has rolled in a few of the PBA regionals and scratch six-gamers in the pass. McCulloch has been banged up with a knee problem and still gave it a shot.

The team of Scott Boyle and Ronnie Fujita took the championship by defeating Garber and Del Cerro for the grand prize of $748, Garber and Del Cerro with $520. Coming up next at Yosemite Lanes will be the 12th Annual Willie Taylor Memorial Singles on Sunday, Aug. 20 on the house shot (42 feet).
