Surdich on Bowling: Three on a team tourney on tap for Sunday at Bellevue
There is still time to enter the Merced/Atwater Women’s 500 Club’s Three on a Team tournament Sunday.
Entries close Friday at 6 p.m., according to Julie Wescott, the club’s tournament director.
The team maximum average is 540, and the tournament is limited to the first 33 teams entered. Your winter book average will be used. One out of five will cash. You roll three games of regular bowling. Get your team ready – women’s, men’s or mixed. Entry forms are available at Bellevue Bowl. Entry fee is $22 per bowler.
Black Oak no-tap results
A total of 72 senior men and women took to the lanes last Friday in the Black Oak Lanes senior 9-pin mini-tourney. Placing in the men’s high series were southpaw Harold Walker of Modesto in fifth with a score of 814 for $30 and Winton’s Manual Frade in 10th place with a handicap score of 800 for $15. Yours truly tied for sixth with an 805 for $25. The next senior no-tap on the hill is July 10 at 1:30 p.m.
Bellevue youth-adults
On Sunday afternoon at Bellevue, you can see a group of young students and adults bowling. Here are a few of their scores from the league: Dezmond Jackson 127/338, Dakota Cook 115/324, B.J. Cook 157, Chris Smith 158, Isaiah Lobato 143, Jennifer Taylor 142 and Joshua Danel with a 337 series. They could be the future bowlers for Bellevue.
Irvin ends his spell
Modesto’s Freddy Irvin ended his dry spell last month in winning in the Yosemite Lanes scratch 6-gamer, as he defeated top seed Myles Duty 227-213 in a close championship match. It’s the first time Irvin has been in the winner’s circle since April 2009.
Irvin qualified second on the PBA Chameleon pattern with a 246 average for six games and in his first match knocked off Will “The Thrill” Garber 265-238. Duty was the top qualifier with a super 255 average for six.
Irvin earned an entry into the 2015 Tournament of Champions in December and a check for $290. Duty received $220. The next six-gamer is Sunday, a special edition as you can win a spot in the PBA West Region Vanessa Brown Homes Open from June 19-21 at Yosemite Lanes in Modesto. Action starts at noon with a $60 entry fee.
Scratch trio scores
A few scores have come in from Bellevue Bowl’s Summer Scratch Trio league rolling on the Chameleon pattern: Jerry Hill 223, Justin Decker 210, Jay Cairncross 212, Kevin Heil 213, Cam Clemens 218, John Nunes 212, Sandy Alvara 223, Neill Barcellos 200, Hugh Gary 207 and Larry Valenti Jr. 218.
Baker joins 900 Global, AMF
News from Texas is that Mark Baker, the renowned bowling coach, has joined the 900 Global company and will represent it during his clinics and seminars, according to California Bowling News.
Baker is called the “Coach of the Pros.” Professional bowler Chris Barnes teams up with Baker at different centers during their seminars. They will visit the Valley again this year for a clinic Sept. 12-13 at Yosemite Lanes in Modesto. Just in time for your league start up.
