Merced senior finishes seventh at the state cross country meet.

Merced High senior Cole McKain finished seventh out of 217 competitors in the Division III race at the CIF State Cross Country Championship Meet at Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday.

McKain crossed the finish line in 15 minutes, 35.6 seconds.

McKain’s time was the fastest time for a Merced High athlete at the state meet in school history and his seventh-place finish is the highest finish for a Bears boy runner at the state meet, according to Merced coach Tim Hagerman.

The Atwater boys finished 13th as a team in the Division III race. Th.e Falcons were led by Zachary Pickle (16:44.8) and Tanner Bristow (16:47.2).
