Roundup: Golden Valley boys open up Godinez Tournament in Turlock with blowout win.
The Golden Valley High boys basketball team opened the Godinez Tournament with an 81-38 win over Riverbank on Thursday night.
Joshua Rockholt led five Cougars in double-figure scoring with 18 points. Anthony Mendez added 16 points and Avery Townsel scored 15 for Golden Valley (4-4).
The Cougars will face Beyer in the semifinal game on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Turlock High.
Golden Valley won the Godinez Tournament championship last season.
Girls Basketball
Le Grand 42, Pacheco 23 in Le Grand — Junior Alexa Ultreras scored 26 points and six steals to lead the Bulldogs (3-6) past the Panthers. Janet Castro added three points and 13 rebounds for Le Grand.
El Capitan 40, Ponderosa 31 in Shingle Springs — Harmonie Farr led the Gauchos with 12 points and Rosealyn Delgado added 11 points in the opener of the Battle of the Foothills Tournament. The Gauchos will face Burbank on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Girls Soccer
Atwater 1, Central Valley 0 in Atwater — Freshman Daisy Martinez scored the only goal of the game to lift the Falcons to a win in their Central California Conference opener over the Hawks.
Boys Soccer
Central Valley 3, Atwater 0 in Ceres — Jesus Yepez scored all three goals to give the Hawks a win over the Falcons. Atwater drops to 6-5-1 on the season and 0-1 in the CCC.
