El Capitan, Golden Valley, Atwater all pick up CCC wins in boys basketball.

El Capitan High senior Dillon Greenwood scored 20 of his game-high 23 points in the first half to help lead the Gauchos to a 64-52 win over Merced on Vince Clemons Court on Friday night.

Greenwood and teammate Dishawn McCutchen combined for 31 of El Capitan’s 41 first-half points that gave El Capitan (9-10, 2-1 Central California Conference) a 19-point lead at intermission.

The Gauchos needed that large cushion because Greenwood and McCutchen (17 points) both picked up their fourth fouls early in the third quarter and were forced to sit out most of the quarter.

Merced (8-10, 1-1 CCC) closed the deficit to 49-41 by the end of the third quarter by outscoring the Gauchos 19 to 8 in the third quarter.

Kortez Tyler led the Bears with 16 points. Jaryll Acosta added 12 points and Jadin Loy scored 11 for Merced.

Freshman Brody Collins chipped in with 11 points for the Gauchos.

Atwater 66, Patterson 56 in Atwater — Robert Smid poured in 26 points to lead the Falcons past the Tigers. Colton Dukes scored 14 and Jordan Williams added 10 points as the Falcons improved to 11-7 overall and 2-0 in the CCC.

Golden Valley 73, Central Valley 35 in Merced — Anthony Mendez led four Golden Valley double-digit scorers with 18 points as the Cougars improved to 12-5 overall and 3-0 in the CCC.

Aurrion Harris added 14 points, Avery Townsel 11 points and Christian Magallanes scored 11 for the Cougars.

Boys Soccer

Central Valley 1, Golden Valley 1 in Merced — The Cougars earned a draw with the top team in the CCC at Veterans Stadium. Miguel Sebastian scored the Hawks’ goal on a pass from Sebastian Castillo.

Central Valley is 11-2-2 on the season and 3-0-1 in the CCC. Golden Valley is 1-0-2 in the CCC.

Girls Soccer

El Capitan 7, Modesto 1 in Modesto — Anaya Shelton scored five goals and assisted on two others as the Gauchos improved to 8-2-3 overall. The Gauchos outscored the Panthers 5-0 in the second half.
