Roundup: Merced girls edge Golden Valley to remain unbeaten in the CCC
The Merced High girls basketball team finished the first half of Central California Conference play undefeated after a 44-41 win over Golden Valley on Tuesday night on Clemons Court at Merced High.
Bears senior Kaitlynn Perez led Merced (17-3, 6-0 CCC) with 12 points. Sierra Smith and Amari Stamps added 10 points each for the Bears, who started the game with a 13-0 run.
The Cougars (12-10, 2-4) fought back behind a game-high 24 points from Charde’ Proctor.
The Bears have now won nine consecutive games.
Atwater 65, Buhach Colony 32 in Atwater — The Falcons (14-8, 5-1 CCC) jumped out to a 17-3 lead and never looked back to remain one game behind Merced atop the CCC standings.
Buhach Colony dropped to 10-10 overall and 1-5 in the CCC.
El Capitan 66, Central Valley 10 in Ceres — Keira Flores led the Gauchos (4-2 CCC) with 13 points. Amyra Navarrette, Daniela Belmonte, and Caly Curran had 11 points each for El Capitan.
Los Banos 44, Lathrop 37 in Los Banos — Anissa Sanchez led the Tigers with 19 points as Los Banos improved to 12-8 overall and 7-0 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Katie Aragona added 12 points and 13 rebounds and Sienna Hampton scored 11 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for the Tigers.
Girls Soccer
El Capitan 8, Patterson 3 in Merced — Anaya Shelton poured in six goals as the Gauchos improved to 4-0-1 in the CCC. Marcy Ramirez and Hayley Espinoza both added goals for El Capitan.
Boys Soccer
Golden Valley 2, Merced 1 in Merced — Carlos Morales scored two goals as the Cougars improved to 3-1-2 in the CCC. Andrew Sanchez finished with six saves for GV.
El Capitan 3, Patterson 3 in Patterson — Diego Hernandez scored two goals and assisted on the other as the Gauchos tied the Tigers. David Hernandez scored the other El Capitan goal and Fernando Abarca recorded six saves.
