Golden Valley girls soccer hand El Capitan its first Central California Conference loss.

The Golden Valley High girls soccer team handed El Capitan its first Central California Conference loss on Thursday night at Veterans Stadium.

Haylee Heffner scored for the Cougars in the 20th minute and Golden Valley held on for a 1-0 win over the Gauchos.

The Cougars improved to 6-4-5 overall and 4-1-3 in the CCC.

Golden Valley stifled a Gauchos team than had scored 33 goals in their first seven CCC matches. El Capitan sophomore Anaya Shelton had scored goals in the seven CCC games.

Heffner’s goal came from about 35 yards out.

After Golden Valley dominated play for the first half, El Capitan kept the pressure on the Cougars in the final 40 minutes, but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Boys Soccer

Central Valley 6, Merced 1 in Ceres — Alex Bautista scored two goals as the Hawks cruised past the Bears. Alexis Jimenez, Isaac Juarez, LeoGiovanni Ayala and Jesus Yepez all added goals for Central Valley.

Merced dropped to 2-6-1 in the CCC.

El Capitan 2, Golden Valley 1 in Merced — Diego Hernandez scored a goal and assisted on Andrew Pangelina’s goal to lead the Gauchos past the Cougars.

Carlos Morales scored Golden Valley’s lone goal.

Fernando Abarca recorded six saves for El Capitan (4-2-3 CCC).
