Golden Valley wins Central California Conference tournament, clinches outright title.
The Golden Valley High wrestling team secured the outright Central California Conference championship after winning the conference tournament on Friday at Patterson High School.
The Cougars qualified 12 of their 14 wrestlers for next week’s Sac-Joaquin Section Division III tournament in Oakdale.
Golden Valley was led by Willie Ward-Williams (138), Enzo Hormozi (145) and Aristeo Prado (285), who all won individual CCC championships. Ward-Williams was named the conference MVP.
Golden Valley finished with 214 team points. El Capitan finished second with 173 points.
It’s Golden Valley’s fourth CCC championship in school history.
Merced also had three individual champions in Abram Granados (106), Marcus Almanza (152) and Christian Lopez (195).
Other local wrestlers to win league title include El Capitans’ Jesus Garcia (120) and Joe Bernabe (170), Buhach Colony’s Joseph Trindade (170) and Awater’s Gilberto Solorio (220).
Girls Wrestling
Led by six individual champions, the Atwater HIgh girls won the CCC championship.
The Falcons finished with 230 team points. Central Valley finished second with 126 points.
Atwater was led by Briana Juarez, who was named the Outstanding Wrestler after winning the 150-pound division. Other Falcons champions were Jessica Garcia (121), Ulyette Curiel (126), Natalie Vasquez (131), Megan Brock (189) and Yisela Vera-Rojas (235).
Golden Valley also had two champions in Natalie Moreno-Aguilar and Samantha Arevalo.
