Merced girls extend winning streak to 15 games, clinches CCC championship
The Merced High girls basketball team clinched outright the Central California Conference championship with a 53-35 win over Patterson on Tuesday night.
The win was the Bears (23-3 overall, 11-0 CCC) 15th consecutive win.
It’s Merced High’s first CCC championship since 2014, for the girl’s program.
Sierra Smith scored 15 points to lead the Bears. Kaitlynn Perez added 13 points and Khya Martin scored 11 for Merced, which hosts Golden Valley on Thursday.
Atwater 55, Golden Valley 39 in Atwater — Samantha Trejo scored 16 points and Jessica Agundis scored 15 as the Falcons improved to 18-9 overall and 9-2 in the CCC.
Livingston 45, Hilmar 29 in Hilmar — The Wolves picked up a road win behind 21 points from Victoria Montes. Maritza Lopez added 10 points for Livingston (19-6, 9-2 Trans-Valley League).
Girls Soccer
Golden Valley 2, Atwater 0 in Atwater — Cougars goalie Jadyn Gong posted her ninth shutout in CCC play as Golden Valley improved to 7-1-3 in the CCC. Gong has surrendered just four goals in 11 games.
Kaylee Perez and Haylee Heffner both scored goals for the Cougars.
El Capitan 10, Central Valley 1 in Ceres — Anaya Shelton scored three goals and assisted on two others to help the Gauchos improve to 8-2-1 in the CCC. Alondra Higareda, Stacy Olivares and Mariann Husevag all scored two goals and Haley Espinoza scored one goal and picked up two assists.
Boys Soccer
Atwater 2, Golden Valley 1 in Merced — Alfonso Torres scored both goals for the Falcons. Aziel Gutierrez and Alex Pena picked up assists. Atwater improved to 5-5-1 in the CCC.
Ulises Zavala scored the Cougars’ lone goals and six saves from Andrew Sanchez. Golden Valley dropped to 3-5-3 in the CCC.
Central Valley 5, El Capitan 0 in Merced — Joel Arellano, Sebastian Castillo, Isaac Juarez and LeoGiovanni Ayalak all scored goals as the Hawks blanked the Gauchos.
