Golden Valley basketball star named Central California Conference MVP
Aurrion Harris put in a lot of work in preparation for his senior basketball season at Golden Valley High School.
The work paid off as the Cougars won a second straight CCC championship, sharing the title with El Capitan with an 11-1 record.
Harris was rewarded individually with CCC coaches selecting him as the conference Most Valuable Player.
“I was happy when I heard because I know I worked hard,” Harris said. “I knew what I had to do to get the award. I was just excited when I heard.”
Harris did a little bit of everything for the Cougars this season.
The 6-foot-2 senior averaged 14 points, 11.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. Harris also spent time playing point guard, forward and center this season for the Cougars.
“I was very satisfied with our season,” Harris said. “We worked hard in practice. We knew our goal was to get past CCC. Once we got past CCC, teams were going to push us harder.”
The Cougars finished with a 25-8 record overall, advancing to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III semifinals before losing to top seed Vanden. Golden Valley also advanced to the quarterfinals of the Northern California Regional Division IV playoffs.
The all-CCC first-team selections included Buhach Colony’s Gerald Braxton, Patterson’s Yannic Andzouana, Atwater’s Robert Smid, Merced’s Cortez Tyler, El Capitan’s Dillon Greenwood and Joe Serena and Golden Valley’s Avery Townsell.
The second team was comprised of Atwater’s Colton Dukes, El Capitan’s Brody Collins and Dishawn McCutchen, Central Valley’s Kaden Manor and Golden Valley’s Christian Magallanes.
The all sportsmanship team selections were Atwater’s Tyler Parr, Buhach Colony’s Naceir Muldrow, Central Valley’s Andy Souksavath, El Capitan’s Aaron Luitweiler, Golden Valley’s Zack Fernandez, Merced’s Jaryll Acosta and Patterson’s Jeremiah Turner.
El Capitan’s Adrian Hurtado was named the Coach of the Year after leading the Gauchos to a co-CCC championship.
All-Southern League Boys Basketball
After a perfect run through the Southern League, Denair’s Hayden Feldman was named the SL Most Valuable Player.
The all-SL first-team selections were Denair’s Jordan Smith-Sires and Jacob Kuharski, Orestimba’s Atzin Marin and Auston Martens and Mariposa’s Cody Truchsess and Carson Arebalo.
The second-team picks included Austin Upfold (Denair), Giovanni Quezada (Gustine), Dylan Nichols (Waterford), Eli Larson (Waterford), Wyatt Bond (Le Grand) and Angel Mariano (Delhi).
Denair’s RJ Henderson was also named Coach of the Year.
All-Southern League Boys Soccer
Le Grand High senior Julian Valencia was named the SL boys soccer Most Valuable Player by the league coaches.
The Bulldogs also had Abel Valeasco, Hector Tejada and Brian Lua named to the all-league team. They were joined by Waterford’s Emanuel Regalado, German Del Toro, Alexander Noriega and Fernando Castillo, Delhi’s Victor Galindo, Rigoberto Ayala and Gabriel Aguilar, Orestimba’s Brian Mondragon and Ricardo Garcia, Gustine’s Danny Hernandez, Mariposa’s Ramiro Marquez and Ripon Christian’s Ethan De Jong.
All-Southern League Girls Soccer
The Southern League coaches selected Ripon Christian’s Kirsi Vander Meulen as the league MVP.
The all-SL team selections were Ripon Christian’s Rachel Oosterman, Elie Wyngarden and Janine Prins, Mariposa’s Lupin Amstutz, Ava Dunlavey, Ruby Yager, Waterford’s Jaecelyn Romero and Cassandra Andrade, Orestimba’s Sophia Avila and Paola Arroyo, Gustine’s Maria Andrade, Le Grand’s Natalia Verduzco and Delhi’s Isis Rocha and Angela Salazar.
Waterford’s Ruben Casilla and Ripon Christian’s Kevin Tameling were named the co-Coaches of the Year.
