A back injury and soreness in both knees never kept El Capitan High senior Rosealyn Delgado off the basketball court this past season.

Delgado was a consistent presence for the Gauchos in the paint.

“I don’t think she missed a practice all year,” said El Capitan coach Tyler Rogers. “She was banged up all year. She’s definitely a warrior. She played a lot for us, especially early on. She probably was playing 28 of the 32 minutes for us. She’s a warrior.”

The Bethesda University women’s basketball coaches apparently liked what they saw.

It wasn’t long after Rogers had sent out video and information on Delgado, that the Bethesda coaches replied.

Delgado recently signed her national letter of intent to accept a scholarship to play basketball at Bethesda University.

“I love basketball,” Delgado said. “I didn’t just want to end it. To get a scholarship to play there and study at the same time is beneficial. I’m nervous and excited at the same time. I’m happy I get to go to college and still play basketball.”

Delgado averaged 5.3 points and 7 rebounds per game this past season to help lead El Capitan to the playoffs.

“They are getting an extremely hard-working player,” Rogers said. “She’s super, super tough.”

Delgado, who currently has a 3.75 GPA, plans to major in early childhood education. She visited Bethesda University in February, and immediately felt a connection with the coaching staff.

“I went to the campus, met the coach and went to where they practice,” Delgado said. “For me, it was the coach that made me want to go to the school. He was really nice. He was helping me with post moves while I was there.”

Delgado had a lot of junior college programs that were showing interest. She’s happy about getting the opportunity to continue playing basketball.

“She was worried she wouldn’t get that opportunity,” Rogers said. “She kept battling and battling all year and sure enough she’s getting that opportunity to play.”
