Local boxers shine at Junior Olympics

A trio of Merced County boxers turned in top-three performances at the Junior Olympic National Championships in Charleston, W. Va., earlier this month.

Merced resident Jesse Haro (12 years old) of Dethrone Fresno won gold in the 60-pound weight class. Toby Wooten Jr. (13) of the Atwater 51Fifty Boxing Club took bronze at 119 pounds. Sandra Tovar (13) of the Delhi 51-Fifty Boxing Club also took bronze fighting at 101 pounds.
